Inspiring families to find their happy place.

Keep the magic alive

We’re keeping the magic alive this week.

Keep playing those imaginary creatures you are asked to play.

Keep reading those fairy tales. Keep fighting the dragons.

Keep the cackle of the wicked step-mother who makes them do chores or else they are banished to the dungeon.

Make potions. Stir brews. Go searching for fairy worlds. Dress up.

Keep the sparklers handy. Keep the glitter on the counter. Keep the fairy dust in your back pocket … sprinkle it when someone needs a boost, a smile, a laugh, an eye-roll.

Talk about fairies and gnomes. Talk about unicorns and princesses. Talk about wizards and magic.

Childhood is full of magic. Let’s not ruin it for them. Let’s not ruin it for ourselves.

Even if they are long past believing in the tooth fairy or Santa … let’s keep the spirit alive with imaginations that run wild, with books that take us to other worlds and made-up characters that bring everything, even pink unicorns, alive.

Just for another day or another week. Let there be a little magic in all of us.

  1. Yes! Yes! Yes! I absolutely *love* this post. I love the world of the imagination – I drench myself in fantasy books (and movies) and fairy adventures and far-off make-believe worlds.

Yet, for all my gruff voices for trolls and cackling witchy laughs when I read to my kids, PLAYing in the world of unicorns and dragons does not come easily to me… it is a private place that I retreat to, not one that I embrace in the “real waking world”.

But I *need* to keep the magic alive… bring the magic alive! —For my girls, who loves dressing up and
–For together play which we need much more of
–For my own inner child who has been far too neglected.

Thank you, Shawn! Going to whip out the imaginary play and get lost in fantasia today.
