How to Have a Happy, Carefree Summer

Summer is …

Long days filled with laughter and running through the grass.
Stopping to smell the roses.
Freshly steamed corn, crabs, and potatoes.
Hot and piping barbecue.
Grilled pizza.
Grilled everything.
S’mores, messy, yummy s’mores.
Lemonade. Pink. Yellow. Cold, on ice. On a stand. In a mug. Anywhere.
Sweet iced tea.
Ice cream. Ice cream trucks. Homemade.
Ice cream cakes.

Running wild and free. Running through the sprinkler. Running at the park.
Roaming. Exploring. Getting a little lost off the trail.
Hiking!
Road trips to no where. Wading. Splashing. Swimming.
No rules for dressing.
Pajama days.
Campfires.
Riding bikes.
Sitting on the porch. Sitting on the patio. Sitting on the grass. Sitting by the pool.
Sitting!
Catching lightning bugs.
Staying up late. Sleeping bag hair.
Warm tents. Cool nights.
Skipping rocks. Searching for the perfect rock.
Drinking cool water from a natural spring.

Jumping in puddles. Getting muddy.
Making mud pies.
Blueberry pies.
Eating pies.
Sleeping in. Or dreaming about sleeping in.
Lazy, hot Sunday afternoon naps with a fan blowing on you.
Dreaming big.
Living simply.
Swinging for hours. Swimming for hours. Daydreaming for hours.
Getting lost in the summer breeze.
Feeling wind blown.
Sunburn.
The smell of the ocean. The sound of the ocean.
Sand in your toes, in your hair.
Carefree.
Happy.

This is summer.

  3. Lindsey Mead says:

Summer is sunscreen and bug spray and ice cream cones dripping down our arms. It is grandparents and salt water drying on our arms and sleeping with just sheets thrown over little bodies because it's hot. It is tennis whites and damp beach towels and everybody being a little more relaxed about everything. xox

  4. Amy Bowers says:
